Our volunteers come from a mix of backgrounds and life experiences, but one thing that sets us a part from other organizations, is that once you become a volunteer, you become family.
We provide an 80% laid back format to your volunteer hours. Relax and work at your own pace.
The other 20% is all hands on deck for in-house and huge community events. We call it controlled chaos. Large events are not for everyone, and that's ok. You get to choose which events you want to work and what shifts fit your active lifestyle.
The SDCL is 100% volunteer run. And without the volunteers, the library would be just a place to hold books. But if you have been here, you know this library operates completely different than other libraries. We are not a quiet library. We interact with our patrons and we are truly happy to see them, work with them to find the right book, and help create events to engage every patron that walks into our doors.
As a volunteer, you help create a magical experience for our patrons. Our goal is to exceed our patron's expectations, and offer a truly incredible experience each time they come in.
For the SDCL it is not about books, it is about community.
When you become a volunteer, we ask that you set aside at least 2 hours for your shifts. It can be daily, weekly, or monthly depending on your availability.
We will work with you to find the best jobs and best schedule for you.
Please understand our age guidelines and limits to your age bracket:
After you log 20 hours of service- You will receive a complimentary SDCL T-Shirt.
After you log 40 hours of service you are invited to join our exclusive Holiday Party and
you become eligible for yearly awards.
As a volunteer you have access to snacks, and drinks not available to patrons.
You also have first pick of merchandise and book sales as well as
access to plants from our agriculture center.
There are many perks to becoming a KELCURT Foundation volunteer!
We can't wait to welcome you into the family!

Traveling to new places and exploring areas close to home are grand adventures to her. She's a caretaker for her elderly parents as well as her family property and works on conservation and protection. She has discovered that there are a lot of threatened plants and animals on her acreage.
Two spoiled little rescue dogs, Morgan and Scrappy, reside with her and keep her laughing. She's found new friends and a new sense of community volunteering at the library.
